Second Chance for Images, etc. Was it worth it? Read on . . .
This past week has been quite the whirlwind week. I had been having so much difficulty with attempting to upload images and other problems, that I bet that I should have a place in the Guinness Book of World Records! Thankfully, I was able to obtain another code voucher to obtain a new WH4S account. I’m glad that I took good notes, as I was able to get credentials for both a new domain name and a WordPress account.
The process wasn’t without more Customer Help Tickets, though. I had to submit a ticket because even though I had to use a different email address for the new accounts, I was asked to verify my email address several times. If I was able to send the help ticket, and receive the emails to keep verifying my email address, why do I need to verify it again. I finally was able to get the credentials from WH4S.
Then I proceeded with the install of WordPress. Again, thank heavens I took good notes. I successfully installed WordPress, taking note of the fields to change, update, or leave alone. I made sure I took screenshots in case I needed them. It was so nice for a change to be able to download a theme I wanted – and it installed and activated without an error message. Most of Saturday night was spent working on Assignment 1.
On Sunday, when I went to start working on my site again, there was a message that WordPress needed to be updated. Ok. I will certainly do that, but I wanted to install the plugins as stated in the assignment. I received an error message that the install failed. Ok. I’ll try another similar download. That install failed. Then another, and another, and another. Not the coincidence that I wanted. Ok. So, I went to the link to update WordPress (thinking that the update was related to the many failed install attempts) and guess what? An error message! In went another help ticket. Waited about a couple of hours. Ok. The update was done. I was able to install the plug in I wanted.
I was able to proceed with the assignment until I got to “you might need to find an image slider plugin” part. Darn, WordPress didn’t have a slider block, so now I have to get another plugin. Ok. I found one and installed it. I was finally able to figure out how to upload images to the Media Library, but then I got an error message that I “needed permission to upload media”. In went another help ticket. Waited again for about a couple of hours. Ok. That problem was fixed. I resumed and struggled with getting images into the Swipe Slider program.
I got all of the images finally in the slider program. I went to attempt to customize the slider file, but most of the options I wanted to use gave me messages that in order to use them, I had to BUY them, even to put page numbers on my slides! I wish I had known about that prior to all of the hassle I had just gone through!
So, I dare you. I double dare you to ask me if a second chance was worth it! All I can say is that the answer is yet to be determined. I like that I can finally download images, although if I upload a video, that it is repeated twice. (Don’t know why that is happening and don’t how to fix that) I do know though, that I am persistent, and I did finally complete the assignment.
